The Rodeo Comes With Your Gate Ticket This Year: Choosing Your Night at the Hillsborough County Fair

Last fall, a seat for the rodeo or the demolition derby at the Hillsborough County Fair was its own purchase. The Osprey Observer's 2025 preview put advance grandstand tickets at $20 to $30, with fair admission included. For the 33rd annual fair, November 5 through 15 at 215 Sydney Washer Road in Dover, the fair has dropped the separate ticket. Every gate admission now includes every special grandstand event. For anyone in Valrico picking one or two evenings at the fairgrounds next door, this changes which nights are the deal.

What one ticket covers now

The fair's tickets page states the change plainly. Admission prices now include all special grandstand events: the rodeo nights, the County Fair Truck and Tractor Pull, and the demolition derby. Parking stays free. The fair's 2026 announcement calls this one of the biggest changes of the year and says no additional event ticket is required.

Advance online admission is $21.63 for adults and $11.28 for seniors 65 and over and for K-12 students. Children 5 and under get in free. These are all-in prices, with the ticket fee and card processing fee included. Advance pricing has been on sale since September 1 and ends on opening day, Thursday, November 5, at 4 p.m. After that, tickets are still sold online at normal pricing. The fair has not published that normal price. The only figure you can plan around is the advance price, and that window closes the afternoon the gates open.

So an adult rodeo seat that cost $20 to $30 last year now costs $21.63 bought in advance, and the same ticket gets you in on every other night of the run too. The arena nights have gone from the most expensive way to attend to the standard price.

Eleven days, four headline nights

Not every night has a major grandstand event, so the change mostly helps people who pick their nights well. The fair's hours and arena schedule line up like this:

Date Gates Carnival Arena
Thu., Nov. 5 5–10 p.m. 5–11 p.m. Carload night, no arena event listed
Fri., Nov. 6 5–10 p.m. 5–11 p.m. Friday Night Lights Rodeo
Sat., Nov. 7 Noon–10 p.m. Noon–11 p.m. Family Day at the Rodeo
Sun., Nov. 8 Noon–10 p.m. Noon–11 p.m. Deaf Duck Mini Bike Racing
Mon., Nov. 9 5–9 p.m. 5–10 p.m. Whip Cracking Contest
Tue., Nov. 10 5–9 p.m. 5–10 p.m. 4-H and FFA Night with Tractor Driving Contest
Wed., Nov. 11 Noon–9 p.m. Noon–10 p.m. Drumline Contest, new for 2026
Thu., Nov. 12 5–10 p.m. 5–11 p.m. Carload night, no arena event listed
Fri., Nov. 13 5–10 p.m. 5–11 p.m. County Fair Truck and Tractor Pull
Sat., Nov. 14 Noon–10 p.m. Noon–11 p.m. County Fair Truck and Tractor Pull
Sun., Nov. 15 Noon–9 p.m. Noon–10 p.m. Demolition Derby presented by Love's Tire

The big events are the rodeo on the first weekend and the truck pull and derby on the second. The announcement describes Friday Night Lights as professional rodeo with bronc riding, bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping. On Family Day at the Rodeo, kids' activities start at 6 p.m., followed by a full evening of rodeo. The second weekend starts with Pedal Tractor Races, where kids compete in divisions for prizes, before the Truck and Tractor Pull. The Demolition Derby closes the fair on November 15.

The closing night needs a little planning. Sunday, November 15, has the earliest gate close of any weekend day, 9 p.m., so derby night is shorter than the other weekend evenings.

The cheapest nights come without a headliner

The fair's daily promotions all fall between the two headline weekends. On those days, the lower price buys the midway, the barns, and the free stages instead of a major arena event.

  • Sunday Funday, November 8: Advance admission is $14.42 for adults, $6.18 for seniors, and $10.28 for students, with gates open noon to 10 p.m. The arena has Deaf Duck Mini Bike Racing that day.
  • Monday and Tuesday, November 9 and 10: The fair advertises "$5 Discounted Gate Admission." The ticket itself lists $6.18, and the fair says its prices include all fees. Gates open at 5 p.m. both nights. These are also the shortest evenings of the fair, with gates closing at 9 p.m.
  • Veterans Day, Wednesday, November 11: K-12 students get in free with ID if an adult 21 or older comes with them. Gates open at noon. The ticket page lists adult advance admission at $14.42 for that day. That evening's arena event is the new drumline contest.

The agricultural side of the fair runs every day, whatever the night's price. The announcement lists livestock shows every day of the fair across 11 species, with more than 1,000 young exhibitors from Hillsborough County showing in the barns. The official schedule covers sheep, steer and beef, turkey, lamb, rabbit, goat, poultry, swine, and dairy shows, plus showmanship and market-animal sales, and notes that it may change. For a family drawn to the barns more than the arena, Tuesday's 4-H and FFA Night at $6.18 a ticket probably covers more of what they came for than a rodeo Saturday would.

Where carload nights still make sense

The two Thursdays work on a different pricing model. On November 5 and November 12, admission is sold only by the vehicle: $57 for up to eight people legally seated in the car, and that price covers gate admission and a ride armband for each person. No individual tickets are sold on those nights.

Here is what that means for a car with two adults and two K-12 students, using the fair's posted advance prices:

  1. Weekday admission bought separately is $65.82: two adults at $21.63 and two students at $11.28.
  2. Four advance weekday ride armbands at $28.88 each add $115.52.
  3. That totals $181.34 on any other weeknight, compared with $57 for the same car on a Thursday.

Neither Thursday has an arena event on the schedule, so the carload saving is mostly on rides. A family that wants rides and the rodeo can't get both at the carload price. A family that wants the rodeo and doesn't care about rides now pays only general admission.

Rides are still a separate cost

The bundling applies to the grandstand only. Ride armbands still don't include gate admission and are sold separately. Advance prices are $28.88 for any one weekday, Monday through Friday, and $34.05 for any one weekend day, redeemed at the Advanced Ticket Box. Advance armband pricing also ends November 5 at 4 p.m.

On a rodeo Saturday, the arena seat costs nothing beyond admission, so the armband is now the main extra cost. For the same four-person car, Family Day at the Rodeo costs $65.82 for admission alone, or $202.02 with four weekend armbands. On Friday Night Lights, weekday armbands bring the total for that car to $181.34. The arena change saves the most for families who skip rides on rodeo night and save the carnival for a Thursday.

The free entertainment comes with any ticket, on any night. New acts this year are Pirate Man Dan and Magic USA. Returning shows include the Firefighter Training Show, the Riddle Me This Experience, Cowboy Camp, and the mascot, Farmer Sydney, who walks the grounds. Hometown Hillsborough has been redesigned for 2026, with displays on the county's agricultural history and the crops and products the county was built on. The Farmer Sydney Ag Education Area, presented by the Hillsborough County Farm Bureau, also returns. The fair hasn't posted its daily stage lineup or named food vendors yet. The announcement promises funnel cakes, buttermilk corn dogs, fresh-squeezed lemonade, tacos, and an open-air beer tent.

Planning around the rest of a Valrico November

Two local events overlap with fair weekends. Saturday, November 7, the day of Family Day at the Rodeo, is also the day of the Valrico FishHawk Chamber's Shop Local Holiday Expo Market at Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale. Fair gates open at noon that day and the rodeo's kids' activities don't start until 6 p.m., so you can do both in one day. The next day, Sunday Funday, overlaps with the Brandon Sunday Market's Shop Local Shop Small market at La Viva Plaza, 788 W. Lumsden Road, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fair is put on by the Greater Hillsborough County Fair Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The association says it formed in 1990. It moved to an operating fairgrounds at the Dover site in 2007, and a full fair with a midway and exhibits returned there in 2009. The fairgrounds have events before and after the fair, too. The 25th Annual Harvest Awards are October 20 at noon in the Exhibition Building, with RSVPs requested by October 10. The 2026 Youth Livestock Banquet is listed for December 7 at 5 p.m. Advance prices on admission, armbands, and carload passes all end at 4 p.m. on Thursday, November 5.
